The security authorities in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand, provided an update on the actions taken by the Myanmar Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) and the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) in their crackdown on telecom fraud gangs in the Myawaddy region.
According to reports, the Myanmar Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) continues to deploy teams to carry out ongoing raids and arrests of telecom fraud groups operating in controlled areas such as Suigou Valley and the KK Park. As of now, BGF has arrested and taken control of approximately 6,500 foreigners, all of whom are either members of telecom fraud gangs or victims of human trafficking. These individuals come from more than ten countries across ASEAN, Asia, and Africa, and they are currently being categorized according to their nationalities.
Due to this situation, BGF is facing challenges in managing and taking care of these individuals. As a result, BGF hopes that Thailand and various embassies will coordinate with the Myanmar government to repatriate the affected individuals as soon as possible. In recent days, China has already taken back 621 of its nationals. Meanwhile, the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) has also gathered 401 foreigners and is facing similar challenges in managing and caring for them.
