The NFL Foundation has launched a new three-year partnership with the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG). This move targets gambling risks among college athletes and students.
NFL Pledges $600,000 for Research
Through this initiative, the NFL Foundation will invest $600,000 in peer-reviewed studies. These studies will explore how gambling affects college-age individuals, focusing on risk factors, behaviors, and long-term impact.
To ensure transparency, the ICRG’s Independent Scientific Advisory Board will oversee the grant selection process. This guarantees that researchers follow rigorous academic standards.
Educational Tools for Parents and Coaches
Besides funding research, the NFL will help refresh the ICRG’s “Talking with Children About Gambling” materials. These updated guides will offer clear advice for parents, teachers, and coaches.
Additionally, the materials will be available online and distributed to schools, youth clubs, and sports organizations across the United States.
Supporting Safer Gambling Habits
Anna Isaacson, NFL SVP of social responsibility, explained the league’s commitment:
“We’re proud to partner with the ICRG to drive research that can lead to real solutions. This partnership fills a critical gap in our understanding of how gambling affects college athletes and students.”
This new program builds on the NFL’s other responsible gambling efforts. For example, the league already works with the National Council on Problem Gambling and the Responsible Gambling Council.
ICRG Praises NFL’s Involvement
Arthur Paikowsky, President of ICRG, welcomed the collaboration:
“The NFL continues to show leadership in player and fan protection. This partnership allows us to focus on gambling harm in young adults—a growing area of concern.”
He added that these findings could guide future policies and support services.
Timely Action as Risks Increase
Gambling-related concerns among youth have gained national attention in recent years. As a result, the timing of this partnership is crucial.
Together, the NFL and ICRG aim to promote safer gambling habits, informed policy, and stronger community support.
