PPATK Freezes 5,000+ Gambling Accounts Tied to IDR 600bn

Coordinated Action Against Illegal Online Gambling

Indonesia’s Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) has frozen more than 5,000 bank accounts linked to online gambling activities. These accounts reportedly processed over IDR 600 billion in transactions. This decisive move forms part of the National Movement for Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (Gernas APU/PPT), a nationwide initiative aimed at disrupting illegal financial flows and reducing the widespread impact of gambling-related harm.

Building a Safer Financial Ecosystem

PPATK continues to collaborate with banks, law enforcement, government agencies, and the wider public to build a financial system that is more resistant to criminal abuse. By targeting the financial infrastructure that supports illegal online gambling, the agency is taking steps to protect national integrity and curb the growth of harmful activities.

Ivan Yustiavandana, Head of PPATK, stressed that the broader goal of this operation is to protect Indonesians from various social and financial threats. “This law enforcement process is not only about stopping online gambling. It’s about saving people from online loan traps, narcotics, fraud, prostitution, and broken families caused by gambling addiction,” he explained.

Gambling Addiction Linked to Broader Crime

Yustiavandana further highlighted the connection between gambling and other forms of criminal behaviour. As many individuals become financially dependent on gambling, some may resort to crimes to sustain their habits. This underscores the urgency of PPATK’s enforcement efforts.

Ongoing Monitoring and Collaboration

PPATK’s role in tracking and analysing suspicious financial transactions remains central to these efforts. The agency is continuing to coordinate with law enforcement bodies to support ongoing investigations and expand the reach of its monitoring network.

As online gambling threats evolve, Indonesia’s financial watchdog is stepping up its response with stronger, data-driven enforcement strategies.
