Swedish Gaming Market Grows 3% in FY24, Reaching SEK 27.8 Billion

Sweden’s gambling industry saw a 3% increase in total turnover for FY24, reaching SEK 27.8 billion ($2.6 billion), according to Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority. Online gaming and betting rose by 5% to SEK 18 billion, while 120,600 people were registered with Spelpaus, Sweden’s self-exclusion program, marking a 3% year-on-year increase.

In the fourth quarter, total gaming turnover hit SEK 7.6 billion, up 8% year-on-year and 14% from Q3. Online gaming and betting climbed 6% to SEK 4.6 billion, while land-based gambling grew 9% to SEK 63 million. State lottery and games saw a significant 19% increase to SEK 1.7 billion, whereas public lotteries grew 5% to SEK 1.1 billion.

Casino Cosmopol continued its decline, with revenue dropping from SEK 92 million in Q4 2023 to just SEK 31 million in Q4 2024.

For the full year, online gaming and betting increased 3.5% to SEK 17.8 billion, while land-based gambling saw a modest 4% rise to SEK 237 million. State lottery and games grew 2% to SEK 5.7 billion, and public lotteries expanded by 2.5% to SEK 3.7 billion.

The sharpest decline was seen at Casino Cosmopol, where turnover plummeted by 66% to SEK 160 million.

Additionally, the Swedish government has announced a review of the country’s Gambling Act, aiming to implement stricter regulations.
