Argentina Updates Online Gambling Ad Warning Rules

Argentina has revised its mandatory warning requirements for gambling and online betting advertisements to improve clarity and reduce the duplication of messages across national and local regulations.

Resolution 271/2026, published in the Official Gazette on August 6, 2026, allows warnings issued by individual provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires to satisfy national requirements, provided they meet specific technical standards for visibility, placement, duration, and size.

National and Local Gambling Rules Align

The changes follow Resolution 446/2025, introduced by the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce (SIC) under the Ministry of Economy in November 2025. That regulation required gambling advertisements to display warnings stating that compulsive gambling is harmful to health and that gambling is restricted to people aged 18 and above.

However, several provinces and Buenos Aires already had their own advertising requirements. Some local warnings also included information about underage gambling and helplines for people seeking support.

Consequently, the government determined that displaying multiple warnings in the same advertisement could make the information more difficult for consumers to understand. The revised framework aims to reduce unnecessary duplication while maintaining clear responsible gambling messaging.

Technical Standards Protect Warning Visibility

Advertisers remain responsible for ensuring that required warnings remain clearly visible and understandable.

The resolution also establishes technical requirements for digital and audiovisual advertising, including designated “safe zones” on screens and minimum display durations. These measures aim to prevent advertisers from hiding warnings in difficult-to-see areas or displaying them for insufficient periods.

Furthermore, provincial gambling regulators and the regulator for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires can formally join the national framework. This mechanism could help jurisdictions align their existing requirements with the federal system and create greater consistency across Argentina.

Rosario Considers Wider Advertising Restrictions

The regulatory changes come as local authorities debate broader restrictions on gambling advertising.

In Rosario, Santa Fe, councilor Federico Lifschitz has proposed a bill that would prohibit gambling advertising, promotion, and sponsorship in public spaces. The proposed restrictions would cover casinos, betting platforms, websites, applications, and online sports betting services.

The proposal would also establish liability for advertising companies, advertisers, property owners, vehicle owners, and others involved in placing or distributing unauthorised advertisements.

Together, these developments highlight Argentina’s continuing effort to balance gambling activity with consumer protection, responsible gaming, and clearer advertising standards.
