New Mandate Enhances Transparency in Online Betting
Brazil has taken a firm step to protect bettors by requiring all online betting operators to register on the government’s complaint portal, Consumidor.gov.br. The announcement came from both the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) under the Ministry of Justice and the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) from the Ministry of Finance.
Leaders Emphasize Consumer Protection
Wadih Damous, National Consumer Secretary, stressed the importance of this integration. “Registering on Consumidor.gov.br ensures that bettor rights are upheld,” he said. “Now, players have a reliable and efficient channel to voice their concerns, which helps balance the relationship between companies and consumers.”
SPA Secretary Regis Dudena echoed this, noting that the move supports responsible oversight. “This step reflects our commitment to legal standards and consumer respect in the betting sector,” he explained.
How the Complaint Platform Works
Consumidor.gov.br already handles issues across various industries, having processed over 8.9 million complaints with a resolution rate of 81%. By including betting operators, the platform will boost consumer confidence and give authorities better tools for industry oversight.
Bettors can file complaints directly with operators on the platform. Once submitted, companies must respond within 10 days, and consumers then have 20 days to assess the resolution and rate their satisfaction.
A Safer Betting Environment for Brazilians
Before placing a bet, players can search for an operator on the platform to confirm its legitimacy. Officials urge consumers to make this a habit to avoid unlicensed sites and ensure a safer gambling experience.
This requirement strengthens Brazil’s broader efforts to regulate online betting while prioritizing transparency and player protection.
