Cambodian Duo Nabbed with THB1M in Gambling Bust

Cambodian Thailand ATM

Thai authorities arrested two Cambodian men in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, in connection with a suspected cross-border online gambling network, according to The Nation. Officers caught the suspects at an ATM withdrawing large sums of cash using multiple electronic cards.

The Central Investigation Bureau and the Crime Suppression Division conducted a joint operation based on intelligence about suspicious transactions involving numerous ATM cards. The two men allegedly worked for a larger illegal gambling operation. Authorities discovered 18 electronic cards registered under various names and seized THB1.05 million in cash during the arrest.

Thai police believe this activity forms part of a broader money-laundering scheme. Cambodian nationals enter Thailand to withdraw funds derived from online gambling. Criminal call center gangs often run these networks, facilitating illegal gambling and laundering money.

Besides cash and cards, officers confiscated 23 items, including two mobile phones and bags used to conceal evidence. The suspects admitted they were paid to carry out the withdrawals and acknowledged that the electronic cards did not belong to them.

After the arrests, police expanded their investigation to uncover the full extent of the network. The operation likely spans across borders and involves millions of baht in monthly transactions. Authorities are now working to identify the financial handlers and facilitators orchestrating these illegal transfers.

Officials expect to make further arrests as they continue dismantling this cross-border online gambling and money laundering network. Thai law enforcement remains determined to crack down on these criminal activities to protect the financial system and uphold the law.
