Apple Allows Licensed Betting Apps in Brazil

Apple has updated its App Store guidelines to allow licensed fixed-odds betting apps in Brazil, marking a major shift in its approach to gambling-related applications. The policy, effective from May 8, permits only operators authorised by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA–MF) to distribute betting apps on iOS.

This move reflects growing alignment between global tech platforms and Brazil’s newly regulated iGaming and sports betting framework.

Licensed Operators Gain Access to Official App Distribution

Under the updated policy, licensed betting companies can now distribute native iOS applications through official channels, replacing the previous reliance on mobile web platforms and progressive web apps (PWAs).

This change is expected to strengthen the visibility of regulated operators while helping distinguish them from unlicensed platforms operating outside the legal framework.

Strict Compliance Requirements for App Approval

To publish apps on the App Store, developers must meet a series of regulatory and technical requirements, including:

  • Submitting a new app version rather than updating an existing listing
  • Providing valid licensing documentation from the SPA–MF
  • Including licence details within App Review notes and supporting files
  • Using App Store Connect to manage submissions and documentation

Additionally, all gambling-related apps must carry an 18+ age rating, which is automatically applied during the submission process.

Apple’s App Review process will assess each application for compliance with local laws and consumer safety standards. Operators are encouraged to work closely with legal advisors to ensure their apps meet all regulatory requirements before submission.

This emphasis on compliance highlights Apple’s intent to support a controlled and transparent betting environment in Brazil.

Strategic Impact on Operator Growth and User Experience

The policy update is expected to significantly influence how operators approach the Brazilian market. With mobile devices dominating access to betting platforms, the availability of native apps can improve:

  • User acquisition through official app channels
  • Retention via push notifications and personalised engagement
  • Overall user experience with faster, more stable performance

This aligns with Brazil’s broader trend toward mobile-first betting, where smartphones account for the vast majority of platform activity.

Strengthening Brazil’s Position as a Regulated iGaming Market

Apple’s decision signals growing international confidence in Brazil’s regulatory framework. By enabling licensed operators to operate within a controlled ecosystem, the update supports the development of a safer and more transparent market.

A Turning Point for Mobile Betting in Brazil

The introduction of licensed betting apps on iOS marks a pivotal moment for Brazil’s iGaming sector. As operators transition from web-based solutions to fully integrated mobile apps, the change is likely to drive higher engagement, improved compliance, and stronger long-term growth across the market.
