Brazil Aligns Tech Access with Gambling Reforms
Google now allows licensed betting and casino apps in Brazil to appear on the Play Store, directly supporting the country’s newly regulated gambling framework. The tech giant updated its platform policy to reflect Brazil’s evolving legal environment, following growing demand from the local betting industry.
Google Gives Licensed Operators Direct Market Access
Until recently, only apps offered by Caixa Econômica Federal, Brazil’s federal bank, were available. These covered lotteries and horse racing. Betting companies had to distribute their apps via unofficial or third-party platforms, which exposed users to security and legal risks.
Under the new policy, operators who hold valid licenses from Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) can now publish their official apps. To qualify, they must include a working link from their official website to their Play Store listing. This measure helps verify legitimacy and reduce fraud.
New Rules Bring Safer User Experience
Google’s update also ensures that licensed apps integrate tools for responsible gaming, such as spending limits and self-exclusion features. These safeguards protect users and distinguish regulated apps from illegal ones, which typically offer no such measures.
By enabling safer access, the move helps steer users away from unlicensed platforms—many of which lack basic consumer protections.
Digital Advertising Opens Up
In line with the update, Google Ads will now accept campaigns from Brazil-licensed betting firms. These ads can appear in search results and the Play Store itself, provided advertisers meet all local requirements.
Brazil’s Betting Sector Gains Momentum
With over 200 operators already licensed to manage multiple domains, this shift is expected to accelerate Brazil’s transition toward a structured, safer, and more transparent online betting environment. Google’s cooperation signals growing synergy between international tech firms and national gambling regulators.
