Brazil Tightens Betting Data Reporting Rules

Brazil’s regulated betting market is facing increased regulatory scrutiny. Licensed operators are required to submit detailed information on bettors, financial transactions and platform activity to the Ministry of Finance. These requirements have gained attention after authorities suspended 14 betting sites linked to six companies for alleged breaches of market rules.

SIGAP Reporting Requirements

The Ministry’s Sistema de Gestão de Apostas (SIGAP) allows the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) to monitor licensed operators and their activities. As part of their regulatory obligations, betting companies must regularly submit operational and registration data through the system.

According to Brazilian media reports, failures to provide required information were among the issues behind the latest suspensions. Metrópoles reported that some operators failed to properly transmit operational and registration data to the government’s monitoring system.

However, the reasons for the enforcement measures varied between operators. Folha de S.Paulo reported that other issues included missing mandatory documentation and shortcomings related to responsible gambling requirements.

The suspensions prevent affected platforms from accepting new bets, although customers can still access their accounts to withdraw available funds. The action highlights the potential consequences for operators that fail to meet Brazil’s regulatory and reporting standards.

Brazil Expands Regulatory Transparency

The enforcement measures come as the Ministry of Finance continues to increase transparency around licensed betting operators. Earlier this month, the Ministry released more than 2,000 pages of documents related to the authorisation of 85 betting companies.

The documents cover areas including corporate and legal eligibility, controlling shareholders, sources of funds and financial capacity. They also cover assessments supporting final licensing decisions.

The release forms part of a broader SPA transparency initiative. The government plans to publish more than 25,000 documents from completed licensing proceedings. Moreover, personal and legally protected information will be removed or anonymised.

Together, the reporting requirements and expanded publication of licensing records demonstrate Brazil’s continued focus. The country is strengthening oversight, transparency and compliance across its regulated betting market.
