DigiPlus Interactive Corp has submitted applications for online gaming licences in South Africa, marking another step in its ongoing international expansion strategy.
Licence Applications in Western Cape
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, DigiPlus confirmed that it filed three applications with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB). These cover licences for manufacturing, bookmaking, and bookmaker premises.
Industry experts often view the WCGRB as one of South Africa’s most reputable regulators, thanks to its robust framework and readiness to oversee online activity.
Chairman Highlights Milestone Move
DigiPlus Chairman Eusebio Tanco described the filing as a major milestone.
“The filing of our online gaming licence in South Africa marks another milestone in DigiPlus’ global growth journey. We bring our proven track record of innovation, responsible gaming, and player protection—together with our strength in localising games for diverse markets—to one of Africa’s most dynamic economies.”
Expansion Across Multiple Markets
The filing comes just a week after DigiPlus launched its surety bond programme in the Philippines, which provides player fund protection of up to PHP 1 million ($17,532) per eligible customer.
In addition, DigiPlus formally entered the Brazilian market only two days earlier with the launch of its GamePlus brand. Brazil’s new regulatory environment has created attractive opportunities for international operators, and DigiPlus has identified the country as a core focus market alongside the Philippines.
Speculation Over City of Dreams Manila
At the same time, DigiPlus continues to face industry speculation regarding a potential acquisition of Melco Resorts’ stake in City of Dreams Manila. The company has clarified that while it is actively evaluating opportunities, it has not reached any definitive agreement.
South Africa: Second Expansion in September
South Africa now represents DigiPlus’ second confirmed international expansion in September. If approved, the licences would allow the company to diversify its digital portfolio while entering a market where online sports betting and gaming continue to grow under structured regulations.
DigiPlus stated that it will issue further updates as the licence review process moves forward.
