DraftKings Launches DK Replay Historical MLB Betting Game

DraftKings has introduced a new product designed to blend sports betting with iGaming-style gameplay as the 2026 Major League Baseball (MLB) season begins. The new offering, called DK Replay, uses historical MLB statistics to deliver a pitch-by-pitch betting experience. This experience resembles an interactive casino-style game rather than traditional sportsbook wagering.

DK Replay Debuts Exclusively in Oregon

DK Replay is currently available only in Oregon after receiving approval from the Oregon Lottery. The game can be accessed through the latest version of the DraftKings sportsbook app and is open to customers aged 21 and above. DraftKings confirmed it plans to expand DK Replay into other jurisdictions. However, rollout timing will depend on regulatory approval in each market.

DraftKings Chief Product Officer Corey Gottlieb said the game provides a new way for customers to enjoy pitch-by-pitch betting in a “unique historical environment,” allowing engagement even when live sports events are limited.

How DK Replay Works

The product allows players to wager on historical plate appearances from MLB games. Users receive anonymised matchups between pitchers and hitters. Each matchup is ranked as bronze, silver, or gold based on performance indicators such as batting average, slugging percentage, earned run average, and strikeouts per nine innings.

Players then have a short time window to predict the outcome of the next pitch, choosing whether it will result in a ball, strike, or ball in play. Once a selection is made, DraftKings reveals the actual historical outcome. The round continues pitch by pitch until the plate appearance ends or the player decides to stop. After each sequence, the players and original game scenario are revealed. This ensures transparency around the use of historical data.

Bridging Betting and iGaming Formats

DraftKings positioned DK Replay as a tool for continuous engagement, offering betting-style gameplay that is not dependent on live sports schedules. This approach helps maintain activity during slower calendar periods. It still relies on real-world sports outcomes.

While the concept is not new, it is gaining renewed momentum. Similar historical wagering models have long been used in land-based settings through historical horse racing terminals. Digital versions have also emerged, including Hard Rock Bet’s archived NASCAR wagering product. DK Replay follows the same structure by combining verified outcomes with randomized presentation. This creates uncertainty for the player while remaining rooted in authentic data.

Industry Trend Toward Alternative Betting Products

The launch reflects a broader shift in the U.S. gambling market toward hybrid betting formats that sit between sportsbook and casino-style gaming. These products offer regulators a clearer distinction from traditional online casino games. At the same time, they give operators new ways to deliver content outside of live-event scheduling.

DraftKings has not confirmed when DK Replay will expand beyond Oregon, but noted that future launches will depend on state-by-state approval.
