Macau Gaming Tax Revenue Rises 9.3% to $7.22B Through July

The Macau government collected MOP58.34 billion ($7.22 billion) in gaming tax revenue during the first seven months of 2026, marking a 9.3% increase year-on-year, according to the Financial Services Bureau.

Gaming tax receipts reached approximately MOP7.15 billion ($885 million) in July, based on the difference between the bureau’s cumulative figures for June and July.

Gaming Taxes Remain Macau’s Main Revenue Source

The gaming sector continued to provide the largest share of Macau’s government revenue. Gaming taxes accounted for 86% of the MOP67.85 billion ($8.40 billion) in current revenue collected through July.

For 2026, Macau has budgeted MOP92.53 billion ($11.45 billion) in gaming revenue. Therefore, gaming tax collections during the first seven months reached 63.1% of the full-year target.

The figures highlight the continued importance of casinos to Macau’s public finances, despite fluctuations in monthly gaming revenue.

Casino Tax Rate Remains at 40%

Under Macau’s 10-year casino concession system, which began in January 2023, operators face an effective tax rate of 40% on gross gaming revenue (GGR).

However, gaming tax receipts do not directly correspond to casino GGR for the same month. A timing gap exists between when operators record gaming revenue and when the government receives the associated tax payments.

Consequently, monthly changes in GGR and gaming tax collections may not move in parallel.

Macau GGR Recovers in July

Macau’s casino GGR fell 12.1% year-on-year to MOP18.52 billion ($2.29 billion) in June. The decline came as weaker demand affected casino performance during the month.

However, the market recovered on a monthly basis in July. GGR increased 9.4% sequentially to MOP20.26 billion ($2.51 billion).

Despite the monthly recovery, July GGR remained 8.4% below the same month in 2025.

Overall, Macau’s rising gaming tax collections show that the sector remains a critical contributor to government revenue in 2026. At the same time, the year-on-year decline in July GGR highlights continued pressure on casino performance despite the monthly recovery.
