The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has issued a public warning against two websites that falsely claim association with the regulator.
Misleading Licensing Claims
The notice states that the identified URLs mislead players by referencing MGA approval without holding a licence. The regulator clarified that it has no ties to these operators and urged the public not to trust their claims.
Consumer Protection Risks
The MGA highlighted that only licensed operators must follow Malta’s strict framework, which covers responsible gaming, anti-money laundering rules, and consumer protection.
It cautioned that players who use unlicensed sites face financial losses and security threats. To stay safe, consumers should always verify licences directly through the MGA’s official register.
Ongoing Regulatory Efforts
This warning comes during a year of increased activity for the MGA. In 2024, the authority generated €84.1m ($98.5m) in revenue, signed cooperation agreements with the Malta Financial Services Authority, and issued 17 new licences while imposing 25 administrative fines.
