The Ad Standards Council (ASC) has recognized Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco for his leadership in promoting responsible advertising in the gaming industry.
Tengco received a Plaque of Appreciation during the ASC’s Patas na Patalastas Summit in Makati City, commending his role in ensuring ethical and truthful gambling-related advertisements. He dedicated the honor to PAGCOR employees, saying their work reflects “fairness, truth, and accountability.”
“Industries like ours carry a greater responsibility to protect public trust,” Tengco said. “Our partnership with ASC ensures that gambling ads remain creative and compelling, yet ethical, truthful, and socially mindful.”
Strengthened Partnership on Advertising Oversight
The award follows a memorandum of understanding signed in July between PAGCOR and ASC. The agreement requires all gambling-related ads across TV, radio, online, and outdoor platforms to undergo ASC screening before release.
Gambling has now joined the ASC’s list of “must-screen” categories, which includes alcohol, medicines, supplements, airline promotions, and breast milk substitutes. The move aims to prevent misleading claims and protect vulnerable audiences.
In line with stricter measures, PAGCOR also ordered the removal of all outdoor gambling billboards last month. Tengco said the directive shows that “when it comes to protecting the public, we will always choose to do what is right.”
Collective Effort for Ethical Advertising
Tengco praised the ASC for its continued role in upholding decency and accountability in Philippine advertising. The summit gathered regulators, advertisers, and stakeholders to strengthen collaboration on responsible marketing practices across industries.
