PAX East is a celebration of gaming and game culture. It features thought-provoking panels, a large exhibition hall, and top publishers and studios. Attendees can also enjoy new game demos, music performances, and tournaments. It offers an unparalleled community experience. No matter what type of games or platforms you prefer, if you love gaming, welcome home.

In 2004, the folks at Penny Arcade decided to host an event dedicated to celebrating gaming and gaming culture. Comics, anime, and other geeky hobbies were cool, but they already had their own conventions. Where could gamers go to play? With this in mind, PAX was born. When the first event had 1337 people pre-register, we knew we were on to something magical.
Starting from our humble beginnings, PAX doubled in size each year until it reached venue capacity. At that point, we partnered with Reed Exhibitions to start taking PAX to other cities around the world. These include Boston, San Antonio, Philadelphia, and Melbourne, Australia.
Over the years, PAX has evolved with the times: embracing cutting-edge technology with VR Freeplay. It also reaches diverse gamers through our Diversity Lounge, and builds a vast library of games for every genre and platform. Despite this evolution, we have always stayed true to our roots. It’s surprising that the scale of PAX today was already in place back in 2004. Freeplay, tournaments, enforcers, exhibition halls, concerts, panels, and the Omegathon… it was all there. Just, you know, on a different scale.
Looking to the future, we hope to continue providing a space for gamers from all walks of life. We aim to celebrate all games and related culture. No matter what type of games or platforms you prefer, if you love gaming, we hope you can find a home at PAX.
