Thai authorities in Thailand have arrested 54 individuals and seized more than THB218,000 in cash during a raid on an illegal casino operating in Nonthaburi’s Bang Yai district. The operation took place on Wednesday, following intelligence gathered by a joint task force of local police and district officers.
The illegal gambling venue was hidden inside a warehouse compound on Soi Kaeo In, concealed behind a three-metre-high zinc fence. Despite its discreet exterior, the facility was air-conditioned and fully outfitted with casino-style gaming tables and equipment. Officers entered the premises by scaling the barrier and found dozens of people actively participating in various forms of betting.
Among those detained were 46 Thai nationals and 8 foreign nationals. In addition to the cash, authorities confiscated a significant amount of gambling paraphernalia, including betting cards, chips, scoreboards, and multiple digital devices used to manage games or track bets.
Thailand’s Provincial Crackdown Intensifies
Nonthaburi Governor Kiattisak Trongsiri stated that this raid was part of a wider crackdown across Thailand targeting illegal gambling dens. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the warehouse to determine how long the operation had been running and whether more individuals were involved behind the scenes.
Officials suspect the venue had been operating for some time due to the level of organization and infrastructure found inside. Investigators are also examining whether this operation is connected to a larger underground network.
Charges and Further Investigation in Thailand
All 54 suspects will face criminal charges for participating in illegal gambling activities. Authorities are also considering invoking Thailand’s anti-money laundering laws if the financial evidence reveals deeper criminal links or organized crime involvement.
Officials emphasized that illegal gambling remains a persistent issue in Thailand, despite ongoing enforcement efforts. They urged the public to report any suspected illegal activity as part of a collective effort to curb underground casinos.
