Vietnam Sees 23% Surge in Foreign Tourists in 2025

Vietnam’s tourism sector is showing strong recovery and growth. International arrivals surged by 23% in the first seven months of 2025 compared to the same period last year. According to the General Statistics Office, more than 12.2 million foreign tourists visited the country between January and July.

China, Korea, and Taiwan Lead Arrivals

Mainland China topped the list with 3.1 million visitors, marking a 45% year-on-year increase. South Korea followed closely with 2.5 million arrivals, while Taiwan contributed 736,000 tourists. The United States and Japan rounded out the top five with 521,000 and 449,000 visitors, respectively.

Other high-performing source markets during the seven-month period included Cambodia, India, and Australia, indicating Vietnam’s broader appeal beyond East Asia.

July Tourism Sees Continued Growth

In July alone, Vietnam welcomed 1.56 million international visitors. This reflects a 36% increase compared to July 2024. Among all source markets, Russia showed the most dramatic rise—a staggering 300% year-on-year jump. This is thanks to the resumption of direct flight services, which had been suspended due to the Ukraine conflict.

Visa Policy Improvements and Infrastructure Expansion

Vietnam is actively seeking to attract even more foreign visitors through better visa policies and enhanced infrastructure. A key highlight of this effort is the development of the Gia Binh International Airport in Bac Ninh province, located near Hanoi. Once completed, the airport is projected to accommodate 30 million passengers annually. The capacity is expected to increase to 50 million by 2050.

This strategic focus on accessibility and convenience positions Vietnam as an increasingly attractive destination in Southeast Asia for both leisure and business travelers.
