ACMA Warns Four Operators for Breaching Australia’s Gambling Laws

Australia Sydney

Regulator Targets Unlicensed Operators

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued formal warnings to four companies for offering unlicensed online gambling services in breach of national laws.

The warnings were directed at:

  • Stellar Ltd, operator of Spinit
  • Just Entertainment B.V., operator of Lucky Ones7
  • Digibrite S.R.L., operator of The Pokies
  • Hollycorn N.V., operator of Slot Lounge

Consumer Protection Concerns

According to the ACMA, these companies provided gambling services to Australian consumers without the required licences. The regulator stressed that such activity undermines the regulated market and fails to deliver the consumer protections mandated by law.

It also reminded operators that offering unlicensed services represents a serious violation. If companies ignore compliance, the ACMA may escalate enforcement, including requests for internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to offending sites.

Repeat Non-Compliance Under Scrutiny

Stellar Ltd had already received a warning in August for running unlicensed casino services via Spinit. The fresh warning underlines the ACMA’s close monitoring of repeat offenders and its commitment to cracking down on non-compliant operators.

Broader Enforcement Strategy

Beyond the recent warnings, the ACMA continues to implement a comprehensive compliance framework. This includes:

  • Monitoring illegal gambling platforms
  • Issuing formal warnings
  • Coordinating with ISPs and payment providers to restrict services

Since 2017, the authority has taken consistent action against offshore operators targeting Australian consumers. The four new warnings add to a growing list of enforcement measures designed to deter unlicensed gambling activity.

Focus Extends Beyond Gambling

Alongside gambling enforcement, the ACMA also published its fourth report on the Disinformation and Misinformation Code. The report detailed measures taken by signatories under the voluntary framework to combat online misinformation, reflecting the regulator’s wider role in ensuring a safer digital environment.
