1xBet, a leading international betting operator, is urging regulators and industry stakeholders to bridge the growing gap between ambition and execution in player protection. Despite widespread agreement on the importance of safer gambling, inconsistent and fragmented regulations continue to challenge operators across multiple jurisdictions.
Drawing from its International Player Safety Index: Western Europe, 1xBet found that while nearly two-thirds of operators prioritize player protection, many remain dissatisfied with the current regulatory approach. About 42% said they receive unclear guidance from regulators, and another 26% admitted they struggle to assess its quality.
These findings will take center stage at SBC’s Player Protection Day on November 12, where Simon Westbury, Strategic Advisor at 1xBet, will discuss how operators and regulators can collaborate more effectively.
“This isn’t about pointing fingers—it’s about finding solutions,” said Westbury. “Operators and regulators want the same outcome: a safe, trusted, and sustainable market. The challenge is turning shared intent into shared standards.”
A Fragmented Global Landscape
Online gambling regulation remains a patchwork of conflicting national rules. Operators working across multiple countries must navigate a maze of requirements that vary not just in scope but in philosophy.
In Europe alone, the contrast is stark. The Netherlands, Italy, and Spain have strict ad bans, while Germany enforces highly detailed restrictions. The UK adopts a more flexible model—but one that’s constantly evolving, often leaving operators uncertain about compliance expectations.
At the same time, regulators face the ongoing threat of black-market competition. Overly restrictive policies risk pushing players toward unlicensed operators, yet international companies often face criticism for making those markets more accessible.
Turning Shared Goals into Shared Frameworks
1xBet believes the industry’s biggest obstacles—regulatory inconsistency, poor communication, and unclear success metrics—can be solved through cooperation and technology.
The company has proposed several steps toward a unified global framework:
- Establish standardized risk checks and common protection triggers.
- Develop multi-operator intervention tools and shared benchmarks.
- Deploy AI-driven monitoring systems, fully tested before rollout.
- Improve data transparency between regulators and licensed operators.
“At 1xBet, we believe protection should be built in—not bolted on,” Westbury explained. “That means early collaboration, consistent standards, and practical guidance that can work across borders. Through dialogue and data transparency, we can protect players without driving them toward unlicensed spaces.”
Building a Safer, Sustainable Future
As global debates over responsible gambling intensify, 1xBet’s call for unity underscores a simple truth: effective protection depends on cooperation, not complication. By aligning rules, sharing insights, and leveraging technology, the industry can move beyond fragmented compliance toward a safer, more sustainable gaming environment—one that works for both players and operators.
