Coinbase Prepares to Launch Prediction Market Platform with Kalshi

Coinbase is preparing to enter the fast-growing prediction market sector through a new partnership with Kalshi, potentially positioning itself as a major new player in the space.

According to a report by CNBC, Coinbase may announce a new product this week that integrates Kalshi’s prediction markets directly into its exchange. The move would allow Coinbase users to access event-based contracts alongside existing crypto products.

Although the partnership is not expected to be exclusive, Kalshi will act as the sole prediction market operator on Coinbase at launch. Speculation around the project has circulated for weeks, intensifying after Silicon Valley researcher Jane Manchun Wong shared an alleged screenshot of a Coinbase dashboard featuring prediction markets on X on November 18.

Coinbase Seeks to Catch Up with Rivals

Coinbase’s entry into prediction markets comes as competition in the sector continues to intensify. Several major crypto platforms have already expanded beyond traditional trading products.

Over the past year, Robinhood, Gemini and Kraken have introduced tokenised equity products for users outside the United States, while also experimenting with event contracts and alternative financial instruments.

At the same time, Kalshi has accelerated its own expansion. Earlier this year, the regulated prediction market operator integrated its contracts into Robinhood and has reportedly held discussions with other large platforms, including crypto exchanges, to pursue similar partnerships.

Prediction Market Volumes Continue to Surge

The prediction market sector has seen rapid growth in recent months. Together, Kalshi and Polymarket dominate global prediction trading activity, with combined volumes rising sharply from $1.3 billion in August to $7.7 billion by November.

Elsewhere, Gemini has received federal approval to operate its own event contracts exchange, while Crypto.com recently partnered with Fanatics to launch a fan-focused prediction platform. These developments highlight growing institutional interest in prediction-based financial products.

If confirmed, Coinbase’s partnership with Kalshi would mark another significant step toward mainstream adoption of prediction markets within regulated financial and crypto ecosystems.
