Brazilian lawmakers have formally urged Apple to make licensed sports betting applications available on its App Store. This request is part of efforts to strengthen the country’s regulated market and reduce illegal gambling activity.
The External Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, which oversees developments in Brazil’s sports betting sector, issued the request and sent it directly to Apple’s Latin America government affairs leadership.
Push to Strengthen Regulated Betting Ecosystem
Lawmakers argue that expanding access to approved betting apps is essential to shift users away from unlicensed operators. The committee says mobile applications serve as the primary channel for Brazilian bettors, making app store availability a key factor in market regulation.
The initiative aims to funnel users toward licensed platforms that comply with national supervision, including identity verification and transaction monitoring requirements.
Efforts to Counter Illegal Betting Operations
Officials also emphasized that increasing access to regulated apps would help reduce the influence of illegal betting networks, which operate without oversight and often link to fraud and organized crime.
Congressman Julio Lopes, who signed the letter, warned that unauthorized platforms lack integrity controls and user protections. As a result, these platforms are more vulnerable to criminal exploitation.
Coordination With Global Tech Platforms
The request follows earlier moves involving Google, which began allowing regulated betting apps on Android devices in Brazil in June 2025. Lawmakers have been in discussions with major tech companies for months. They are attempting to align digital distribution channels with Brazil’s newly regulated betting framework.
Authorities believe app store inclusion is critical to shaping user behavior in a market where mobile betting dominates.
Legislative Oversight Continues
The Chamber of Deputies is expected to further examine the issue in an upcoming public hearing by its Communications Committee. These discussions form part of a broader regulatory effort to consolidate Brazil’s regulated sports betting environment. This comes after the market’s formal launch in 2025.
