Buenos Aires Province lawmakers will resume work on online gambling regulation on September 16. On that date, the Chamber of Deputies’ Committee on Gambling, Lottery and Prevention of Gambling Addiction reviews 27 pending measures.
The agenda includes proposals covering youth protection, advertising restrictions, access controls, gambling harm prevention and regulation of online casino products.
Committee Reviews 27 Pending Measures
The September session will be the committee’s second meeting of 2026 and its first expected to address substantive legislative proposals.
The committee was established in February. It began operating in July to provide a dedicated forum for addressing Buenos Aires Province’s fragmented online gambling and responsible gambling agenda.
Its first meeting considered two non-binding declarations related to local problem-gambling prevention initiatives. No substantive reform proposal has yet received a committee opinion.
The latest agenda includes 22 bills, three declarations and two requests for information. These were submitted by lawmakers from across the political spectrum.
Youth Protection and Online Controls
Several proposals focus on protecting minors from gambling-related harm.
Measures include restrictions on advertising targeting young people, biometric identification requirements and controls on the use of virtual wallets by minors. Other initiatives would introduce gambling-awareness programs in schools and sports clubs. In addition, stronger training for prevention and treatment services is proposed.
One proposal would also establish a telephone support line for people affected by gambling-related harm.
Online Casinos and Access Restrictions
Lawmakers will consider amendments that would explicitly incorporate online casino products into provincial gambling legislation.
Access-control measures are also on the agenda. A proposal from Castelli municipal council seeks to restrict access to gambling platforms through Wi-Fi networks in schools and public buildings.
The proposals highlight lawmakers’ growing focus on online gambling access and promotion across the province.
Committee Seeks Common Ground
The committee has invited the authors of the proposals to present their initiatives during the September 16 meeting.
Lawmakers may identify overlapping provisions and explore combining compatible measures into a unified legislative proposal. However, no consolidated bill has been agreed, and the committee is not expected to approve a comprehensive reform package at the meeting.
The session will nevertheless provide an important indication of whether Buenos Aires Province can move beyond preliminary discussions. Lawmakers may then begin consolidating its backlog of online gambling and gambling-harm measures into a more coherent regulatory framework.
