Gala Bingo Apologises After £18K Winnings Voided Due to Glitch

Gala bingo

Gala Bingo has issued a formal apology. This follows a system glitch that caused a couple to lose £18,000 ($24,200) in winnings during its Summer Nights Bingo promotion.

The error occurred over a two-hour period on Monday, 4 August, when incorrect payouts were displayed to customers. While the promotion had a maximum prize of £150 per game and tickets priced at £0.01, the glitch awarded inflated amounts. This happened when players received a consolidation prize.

Gala Bingo confirmed it had informed the UK Gambling Commission. The company stressed that its terms and conditions allow winnings to be voided in the event of a technical malfunction.

A company spokesperson said:

“We apologise to customers for a technical error during our Summer Nights Bingo promotion, which resulted in all players receiving incorrect payouts. Our Terms and Conditions clearly state that in the event of a malfunction, winnings can be voided. Affected players have been contacted directly with a gesture of goodwill.”

Incidents like this are not unprecedented. Earlier this year, similar disputes involving Paddy Power and Betfred sparked industry debate. The debate centered on the reputational risks operators face when voiding glitch-induced winnings.
