Google will ban Chrome Web Store extensions that facilitate or promote real-money prediction markets. The new policy takes effect on August 1.
The updated Developer Program Policies are expected to impact extensions connected to platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket. These extensions typically provide real-time contract prices, trading alerts, or tools that simplify placing prediction market orders.
Extensions supporting simulated prediction markets without cash prizes may still be permitted. However, they must clearly state that users cannot win real money.
New Policy Targets Real-Money Prediction Markets
Google said the policy aims to strengthen user trust and platform security.
“Extensions that facilitate or enable real-money transactions on predictive outcomes are not allowed,” the company stated. The company added that the changes clarify rules around prediction markets, data collection, and AI safety.
Stricter Data Collection Requirements
Alongside the prediction market ban, Google is tightening privacy requirements for Chrome extensions.
Developers may only collect data necessary for an extension’s core functionality. They must also clearly disclose what information is collected, how it is used, whether it is shared with third parties, and how long it is retained. Additionally, any future changes to data collection practices must also be communicated directly to users.
Regulatory Pressure Continues
The policy update comes as prediction markets face growing regulatory scrutiny in the United States and other jurisdictions. The main issue is whether event contracts should be regulated as financial instruments or gambling products.
Google noted that the new rules do not affect its existing Google Finance integration. This integration has displayed pricing data from Kalshi and Polymarket since November 2025.
