Google’s latest core update rolled out just before the end of 2025. Expectations were high across industries that struggled throughout the year, but for iGaming, the impact was largely uneventful.
In practical terms, the update changed very little. Traffic patterns on major sites remained stable, and rankings showed minimal fluctuations. Unlike sectors such as finance or health, iGaming appears once again to have been left on the sidelines.
Stability Is the Key Signal
The main takeaway is not what changed, but what didn’t:
- Established domains continue to dominate search results
- Domain authority remains the primary ranking factor
- Sites that previously lost visibility did not recover
Analytics for major operators and affiliates show only minor fluctuations, reinforcing the conclusion that this core update had negligible effect on iGaming.
This outcome is unsurprising. Across the sector, content quality, technical SEO, and UX have converged, leaving links, domain age, and authority as the decisive factors. When the ecosystem is structurally uniform, core updates rarely move the needle.
Affiliates See Little Relief
Feedback from affiliates confirms the picture. Those who invested heavily in improvements over the past year saw little return, while sites that lost rankings earlier in 2025 remain absent from search results. For anyone hoping for a “reset,” this update did not deliver.
Why the Next Spam Update Matters
Meaningful change is more likely to come from Google’s next spam-focused update. Aggressive link-building still drives rankings in iGaming, and top performers rely heavily on these tactics. Only when Google addresses low-quality links and manipulative strategies will quality content have a chance to rise.
The last notable spam update was in August 2025, while a December release briefly favored spam-heavy sites. Future updates targeting these practices will likely produce far more noticeable shifts than core updates.
A Challenging Vertical
iGaming represents a small fraction of global search volume and remains one of the most aggressively optimized verticals. Google’s focus seems to prioritize risk management and compliance over competitive adjustments. This may explain why updates appear muted, but enforcement can hit abruptly when necessary.
For now, the message is clear: this core update was not the reset many were waiting for—and iGaming remains largely unchanged.
