HKJC World Pool Turnover Jumps Nearly 20% on Overseas Racing

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) saw a nearly 20 percent increase in turnover from its World Pool platform for non-Hong Kong races in 2025. The platform recorded HK$9.3 billion (US$1.19 billion) in overseas betting. This was an increase from HK$7.8 billion (US$1.00 billion) in 2024. The growth was driven by an expanded race calendar and the addition of new jurisdictions.

More International Races Boost Volume

The World Pool hosted 57 overseas meetings in 2025, up from 48 the previous year. This was an 18.75% increase in content. By connecting more markets, the HKJC expanded liquidity pools. This attracted higher betting volumes and reinforced its role as a hub for international wagering.

Record Single-Race Turnover

A standout moment came during The Everest at Randwick Racecourse. Here, Ka Ying Rising, one of Hong Kong’s most popular thoroughbreds, inspired punters to place HK$83 million (US$10.65 million) in a single race. This broke the previous record of HK$66.2 million (US$8.50 million) set at the 2023 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.

Andrew Harding, HKJC’s Executive Director of Racing, said the figures reflect the growing popularity of the World Pool. “Adding more racedays and jurisdictions has created a dynamic ecosystem where turnover records are being broken regularly,” he said.

Group 1 Races and Total Turnover

For the first time, all Hong Kong Group 1 races joined the World Pool, contributing HK$1.6 billion (US$205 million). Combined with overseas events, the overall turnover across 329 races reached HK$10.9 billion (US$1.40 billion). This spanned ten jurisdictions, providing bettors with a seamless global experience.

Looking Ahead: Sustaining Global Growth

The HKJC plans to maintain this momentum in 2026 by adding more quality international races to the pool. Harding emphasized that expanding the global calendar strengthens liquidity, supports prize money levels, and enhances the betting experience worldwide.

The World Pool continues to demonstrate how commingled international betting can drive growth, stability, and scale in the racing industry.
