Indonesia’s Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) has requested an additional IDR516.4 billion (US$31.7 million) for its 2027 budget. The goal is to strengthen efforts against online gambling, money laundering, and terrorism financing.
If approved, the funding increase would raise PPATK’s total budget to IDR769.8 billion (US$47.3 million). This would more than triple its current allocation.
Focus on Financial Crime Enforcement
PPATK said the additional funding would support transaction monitoring, financial investigations, compliance activities, international cooperation, and technology infrastructure.
The agency noted that stronger resources are needed to track financial flows linked to illegal gambling and other financial crimes. This need is growing as digital payment channels continue to expand.
World Cup Gambling Concerns
Recently, PPATK warned that gambling-related transactions could rise during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They have identified patterns similar to those observed during previous major football tournaments.
The agency also reported that Indonesia’s QRIS digital payment system has been used for football betting transactions. Moreover, some gambling funds have allegedly been routed through nominee bank accounts.
Despite a decline in online gambling turnover in 2025, Indonesia still recorded 422.1 million gambling transactions. There were also IDR36.01 trillion (US$2.4 billion) in deposits. This highlights the continued scale of illegal betting activity.
Parliamentary Support Grows
The budget proposal has already received support from lawmakers, who believe PPATK requires additional resources. This support is based on the need to strengthen asset recovery efforts and combat financial crimes linked to illegal gambling networks.
The backing from parliament adds momentum to the proposal as it progresses through the national budget review process.
Expanding Enforcement Capacity
PPATK said the requested funding would allow the agency to expand its monitoring and investigative capabilities. Furthermore, it would enhance cooperation with domestic authorities and international partners.
As Indonesia continues its crackdown on online gambling and related financial crimes, the final budget decision will be crucial. It will determine how significantly PPATK can strengthen its enforcement efforts in 2027.
