PAGCOR Highlights Online Gaming Revenue

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has once again emphasized the benefits of a regulated online gaming sector, despite mounting political pressure to shut it down.

In a statement issued Wednesday, PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco reported that licensed online gaming generated ₱60 billion ($873 million) in fees from January to July this year. Of that total, ₱41 billion ($715.9 million) came from electronic games alone.

“Because of its huge potential, online gaming has become an important source of funds for our nation-building commitments, including PAGCOR’s support for education, health care, and community development,” Tengco said.

Social Impact Through Revenue

Tengco explained that revenues collected from the online gaming sector flow directly into PAGCOR’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs and other government-supported initiatives. These include the construction of schools, socio-civic centers, and e-learning hubs.

“Every peso we collect from the gaming sector translates to meaningful projects such as classrooms for our children, health programs for our people, and safe spaces for communities in times of calamity. This is how we ensure that gaming directly benefits Filipinos,” he added.

Warning Against Illegal Sites

At the same time, Tengco warned that closing the licensed market would only strengthen illicit actors. “These illegal sites not only deprive the government of much-needed revenues but also expose Filipino players to numerous risks,” he noted.

PAGCOR has pledged to intensify regulation and enforcement to safeguard consumers and protect state income. The regulator stressed that allowing legitimate and properly monitored operators ensures both public safety and steady government revenues, while providing players with a secure, legal avenue.
