Samsung Secures Major Deal in India’s Collegiate Esports

Samsung has officially entered India’s rapidly growing collegiate esports scene, marking a significant step in the country’s competitive gaming evolution. The South Korean technology giant has partnered with College Rivals as the Official Title Sponsor for its third edition, a move designed to strengthen Samsung’s connection with India’s youth demographic. Through this collaboration, Samsung positions itself directly within the competitive ecosystem of college-level esports across the country.

Flagship Technology Integrated into Competitive Play

At the core of the partnership is the integration of Samsung’s flagship hardware into live competition. Under the agreement, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will serve as the primary device for all on-ground matches throughout the tournament. As a result, student competitors from multiple cities will test the device under demanding, real-world esports conditions.

This decision reflects a broader shift within India’s collegiate gaming community. As mobile esports participation continues to rise, demand for high-performance devices has grown accordingly. Today’s competitive players expect consistent performance, low latency, and advanced graphics capabilities—features that were once considered premium extras but have now become essential. By placing its flagship smartphone at the centre of competition, Samsung aligns its product positioning with the practical needs of serious gamers while reinforcing brand visibility within the community.

Supportive Regulation Strengthens Esports Momentum

Samsung’s entry also coincides with a more favourable regulatory environment for esports in India. The introduction of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act (PROGA) 2025 has provided clearer oversight and compliance frameworks for online gaming activities. At the same time, esports has gained further legitimacy through its inclusion in national initiatives such as the Khelo India Youth Games.

In parallel, several Indian states—including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu—have begun organising official cricket and esports tournaments. These state-level initiatives have helped establish grassroots competitive structures, enabling talent development beyond major metropolitan centres. Consequently, this expanding ecosystem has made the sector more attractive to large corporate investors seeking long-term engagement opportunities.

College Rivals Season 3 Expands Scale and Reach

College Rivals Season 3 is expected to be the largest edition of the series to date. Organisers plan to host events across more than 70 colleges in over 20 cities, significantly expanding the tournament’s national footprint. In addition, new competitive formats will be introduced, with a particular focus on popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India.

Ampverse, which operates the series in partnership with DMI Finance, describes itself as Asia’s largest gaming community ecosystem. Since launching the College Rivals Esports Series in August 2023, the company has steadily built a strong presence within India’s gaming landscape. By its third season, the tournament has already achieved one of the widest campus reaches in the domestic esports sector.

Esports Emerges as a Strategic Youth Engagement Channel

Samsung’s involvement signals growing confidence among major brands in esports as a viable engagement platform. This development follows closely after Hindustan Unilever Limited entered the space by sponsoring the Chennai Esports Global Championship through its Boost Protein brand.

Industry observers note that mass-market brands are increasingly viewing esports as both a technology testing ground and a credible channel for youth engagement. As competitive gaming continues to mature in India, such partnerships are likely to become more frequent, reinforcing esports’ position within the country’s broader digital entertainment economy.
