San Juan Plans Five Online Gambling Licenses

Argentina’s San Juan province is finalising regulations that would allow the Caja de Acción Social (CAS) to issue five online gambling licences. At the same time, the province is strengthening responsible gambling controls.

CAS president Juan Pablo Medina said the regulatory framework is close to completion. San Juan is also working with neighbouring Mendoza and San Luis on an agreement. This agreement would extend self-exclusion protections across all three provinces.

Provinces Plan Shared Self-Exclusion

Under the proposed agreement, players who self-exclude in one province would also become ineligible to gamble at licensed online and land-based venues in the other two jurisdictions.

The system would connect the provinces’ self-exclusion databases. Therefore, regulators and operators could share relevant information while maintaining confidentiality and personal data protections.

Medina said the arrangement would give self-exclusion measures an interprovincial reach. This would prevent players from bypassing restrictions by moving to another jurisdiction.

Data Supports Online Controls

Argentina’s decentralised gambling system allows individual provinces to establish their own regulatory frameworks for land-based and online gambling.

The proposed San Juan, Mendoza and San Luis agreement would create a regional mechanism within this structure. It would do so by linking information on self-excluded players.

Licensed online operators in the participating provinces would need to check the shared database before allowing users to register or place bets.

Land-Based Venues Also Included

The proposed restrictions would also cover physical gambling venues. Licensed casinos, slot halls and bingo establishments in the three provinces would be required to prevent self-excluded individuals from accessing their facilities.

The initiative combines San Juan’s planned online gambling licensing framework with stronger responsible gambling measures.

If implemented, the regional system would give operators and regulators a shared tool for enforcing self-exclusion. Meanwhile, the participating provinces would maintain their separate gambling regulatory systems.
