According to local media reports, officials have received positive feedback on the pilot scheme allowing local residents to gamble, especially as the country works to recover from the pandemic’s impact on tourism and the broader economy.
Economic and Social Impact Considered in Vietnam
The Deputy Director of the Department of Financial Institutions noted that the ongoing review highlights the benefits of the locals’ pilot program, which has contributed to tourism growth, infrastructure development, and job creation in Vietnam.
Recently, the government introduced a new decree requiring a minimum investment of USD 2 billion for new casino licenses, reflecting its intent to attract large-scale, responsible investors.
Broader Industry Under Review
Beyond casinos, authorities are also examining regulations for horse racing, dog racing, and football betting, suggesting that a more comprehensive legal framework for Vietnam’s gaming sector could soon be on the horizon.
