International Game Technology (IGT) is set to continue operating the Italian National Lottery through 2034, after the Judging Commission completed its technical and economic review of the LottoItalia consortium’s bid.
LottoItalia Moves Toward Official Confirmation
Led by International Game Technology, the LottoItalia consortium—which includes Allwyn, Arianna 2001, and Novomatic Italia—expects formal approval from Italy’s Customs and Monopoly Agency (ADM) within the next 35 days.
Together, the consortium raised €2.23 billion ($2.51 billion) to secure the licence. IGT alone earmarked €500 million toward the bid, as outlined in its Q1 2025 financial report.
IGT Outlines Growth Plans
IGT CEO Vince Sadusky highlighted the licence’s strategic importance:
“This €2.23 billion investment reflects the immense value of the new licence. We expect this move to significantly enhance our revenue and profit potential.”
He also noted that the company plans to launch new products and expand its iLottery, iCasino, and sports betting offerings across Italy.
IGT Executive Chair Marco Sala added:
“Italy’s Lotto concession ranks among the world’s most important lottery contracts. IGT has successfully managed this licence for over 30 years. With ongoing innovation and advanced technology, we’re proud to continue working with ADM for another nine years.”
Flutter Misses Out
Flutter Entertainment, through its subsidiary Sisal, submitted a competing bid but appears to have lost to the IGT-led consortium.
Despite facing regulatory scrutiny in the UK, Allwyn CEO Robert Chvátal expressed confidence in the Italian partnership:
“We’re excited to continue supporting this project in Italy. Allwyn’s experience in modernising European lotteries will help grow the Italian Lotto while promoting responsible play.”
More from IGT
Earlier this month, the company secured a UAE gaming vendor licence from the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), allowing it to supply land-based gaming products in the country.
In addition, IGT recently earned its sixth consecutive responsible gaming certification in Italy, reinforcing its commitment to ethical gaming practices.
